Celebrate Summer with Cold Brew

Summer is well and truly here, so it’s time to break out the Cold Brew (if you haven’t already). We can’t get over the delicious flavours and sweetness of our signature House Blend. It’s like a café style coffee in your own home. Cold Brew has an interesting history and we loved learning more about it. We were surprised how long ago Cold Brew was invented, since it’s only gained popularity in the last 10 years. We hope today we can answer some of your questions!

Where did Cold Brew originate?

Cold Brew has become increasingly popular more recently, however its creation dates all the way back to the 17th Century. The Dutch invented Cold Brew Concentrate so they could enjoy their coffee while on their lengthy journeys sailing the globe. It was later adopted by the Japanese who created the renowned Kyoto-drip style coffee. This technique creates beautiful flavours and is almost artistic to watch, as the cold-water drips slowly over coffee beans over a long period of time.

How is Cold Brew made and how is it different from Iced Coffee?

One of the most googled Cold Brew questions is “what’s the difference between Iced Coffee and Cold Brew.” With Cold Brew it is brewed cold; meaning ground coffee is placed in cold to room temperature water and will stay here for up to 12 hours. This allows the water to absorb that beautiful coffee flavour without it being heated. With an iced coffee it is a hot espresso shot with either cold water or cold milk added. You may find when enjoying an Iced Coffee it may have a more acidic flavour than Cold Brew as it has been heated. Cold Brew is perfect for Summer, you still get your caffeine hit but without the heat!

With our Cold Brews we absolutely love the signature House Blend used and we know you’ll love it too. If you’ve tried our coffee before you will be able to notice the distinct flavour of House Blend. The undertones being Toffee Caramel, Roasted Almonds and Dark Chocolate.

What’s the difference with our Cold Brews?

At SO espresso we have created two types of Cold Brew. These being our Cold Brew Concentrate and the Cold Brew Pure Black. Both come in foil style bags, that can be easily stored in the fridge. With a tap dispenser so you can easily fill up your cup every time.

Our Cold Brew Concentrate is to be enjoyed mixed with water or milk. Our recipe is about 60mL of Cold Brew Concentrate then fill the rest of the glass with water or milk (you can also add ice if you are going for the café feel at home.) This is just our recommended recipe, you can add more or less concentrate depending on personal preference. We just absolutely love the beautifully balanced flavour and how you can customize it based on your palette.

If you want an amazing black cold brew coffee look no further than our Pure Black Cold Brew. Simply fill a glass with the Cold Brew and you’re good to go. We personally love it with some ice added but that’s just us! You swear you will have picked it up at a café, the flavour is so good with our signature Toffee Caramel, Roasted Almonds and Dark Chocolate flavours.
