Trick or Coffee Treat?

Trick or Coffee Treat?

We don’t want to scare you too much before Halloween, but these facts might give you a bit of a fright. In 2019 it was estimated that 56 billion coffee pods ended up in landfill. What is even more horrifying, is that these pods can take up to 500 years to break down. You can imagine if every household is using these non-biodegradable pods every day for a coffee, how many pods are going straight to landfill. We know that household coffee pod machines are on the rise too, with many families making their coffees at home during lockdowns.

When we created SO espresso and were researching coffee pod options we were horrified by these statistics. Our team at SO espresso try and live by the famous words of David Attenborough when making or selecting any product for SO espresso:

“It’s surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth.”

We knew we had to create a coffee product that tasted great and is the best choice for the environment. We created completely biodegradable and compostable coffee pods. Meaning once you have used them you can simply pop them into a compost bin at home or a FOGO bin if its available in your local Council area. We know it can be daunting to make greener changes at home. However, we found making simple switches to environmentally friendly products are a great step in reducing single use waste and your overall carbon footprint. Why not start today, with a simple coffee pod swap.

Our Coffee Pods are great as they are compatible with Nespresso Machines, so you don’t have to invest in a brand-new coffee pod machine. All you have to do is switch over to our Coffee Pods and you’re already making a better choice for the environment. It can be a little scary trying a new flavour coffee but rest assured, our Coffee Pods have our signature House Blend flavour that everyone absolutely loves. It is a beautiful mixture of toffee caramel, roasted almonds and dark chocolate. This sweetness pairs perfectly with the beautiful roasted coffee flavour.

We have plenty more tips on how to reduce your single-use waste and offer a range of environmentally friendly products on SO espresso. Even the bags our coffee beans come in are 100% recyclable. Coffee grounds have multiple uses, and we created an entire blog dedicated to explaining the various ways you can use them. They’re perfect for the garden as a fertiliser or you can compost or toss them into the FOGO bin with your coffee pods. Check out our blog for some more tips on how to use them

Treat yourself and the environment to a beautifully crafted coffee today!
